It was the deep desire of Servant of God Joseph C. Panjikaran, the founder of medical sisters of St. Joseph to reach out to the poor and marginalized with a goal to touch the humanity.
Fatima Hospital owes its existence next to God, to his lordship Rt. Rev. Patrick D'Souza, Bishop of Varanasi. Impelled by an abiding spirit of Christian Charity and a keen awareness of the vastness.
Ever since its inceptionin 1977 31st May. Fatima
hospital,Mau,committed to continue the great mandate of HEALTH AND
WHOLENESS for the rural poor of EASTERN UTTAR PRADESH. Health of
the people had been a real concern and it was long cherished dream
of Most.Rev.Bishop Patrick D’Sousa of blessed memory, the then
bishop of the Catholic Diosese of Varanasi. The Medical Sisters of
St.Joseph has agreed to share the dream of Bishop Patrick and
Fatima hospital began as the first health care institution in
Mau.Today Mau has grown as district head quarters with the
population OF 22,05,170 and become a health Hub with more than 75
health care facilities. After 45 years of existence Fatima
hospital remains focused and committed to the vision of Health in
its fullness to rural poor as a multi specialty and super

service delivery as a HEALING PRESENCE IN THE MIDST OF WOUNDED
WORLD.
Msgr. Joseph C Panjikkaran was the founder of Medical Sisters of
St.Joseph, the congregation which owns and operates Fatima
Hospital and its associated hospitals. His legacy was greater
institutions and its buildings. He was on fire with zeal ans
compassion for the suffering. He brought new hope and dignity to
women in Kerala, giving them the benefits of modern medicine,
previousely denied by cultural barriers.
Days were flown medical science has tremendously grown, we are in
world of competition in health care mission.Variouse Governments
have implemented number of health schemes for general public.
There are regulations and monitoring agencies and authorities in
place. In the delivery of health care Fatima Hospital Mau provides
a culture of caring while pursuing its commitment of professional
excellence. Fatima hospital Mau is committed to innovation and the
adoption of new, appropriate, cost effective health care
advancements. Fatima Hospital, Mau reaffirms its commitments to
the promotion of health and wholeness in individuals and
communities and its special concern for the differently abled,
disadvantaged, marginalized and vulnerable. In its role as a
living witness in the healing mission of Christ, Fatima hospital
Mau looks for support and participation in programs in education,
service, outreach, research, from friends and agencies in India
and abroad, in a true spirit of partnership.
Dr. Sr. Jude, a member of the medical sisters of St.
Joseph, Little Flower Province, Lucknow, U.P, has been serving at
Fatima Hospital, Mau, UP. Since May 1977. Having obtained her MBBS
from Lady Harding Medical Collage, New Delhi, she served for two
years in Fatima Hospital, Lucknow, before returning to Lady
Harding for M.D. in Gynecology and Obstetrics. After another brief
stint at Poliganj Hospital, Majhola, U.P., she headed for Fatima
Hospital, Mau, in eastern U.P. where she was destined to be the
patron of lost causes(as far as gynecology is concerned) just as
Sr. Jude the Apostle.
Way back 1977, when she landed in Mau, there was no hospital or
health centre in a radius of 40 kilometers. The dacoit infested
area, notorious for ever increasing crime graph, posed many
challenges and threats. Hostile environment where even an
accidental death in the hospital could cause riots, poverty and
illiteracy of the masses, attacks by extortion gangs and outlaws,
paucity of resources, scarcity of man power, and even the alien
culture and language (Bhojpuri) did not deter this angel of
consolation from dedicating her life to the poorest of the poor in
one of the most backward areas of India.
Initially she had to work as a general physician attending to all
and sundry cases due to non availability of trained hands; but as
more doctors joined the hospital, she began to concentrate on her
field of specialization i.e. gynecology and obstetrics, To this
day she has performed 80000 Caesarian section operations and
thousands of gynecological surgeries. On an average she sees 200
patients in her OPD daily even at the age of 70.
As Mau is a backward area inhabited by illiterate people, the
local dais or midwives rule the roost. It is only when they throw
up their hands after complicating the cases that the residents
think of rushing to the hospital. No other hospital would admit
such cases and so high liability cases are always rushed to the
door of this Mother Teresa of Mau (as she is affectionately called
by the locals) because no one is denied here not even the dead.
She often deals with barely conscious cases arising out of
ignorance of midwives where the babies are wrenched out by the
head causing the head to come right off, are attended to by this
zealous num with great courage, Not even HIV/AIDS patients are
refused admittance and she would gamely pull on two pairs of
gloves and conduct.
In the footsteps of Jesus to touch the humanity with a Compassionate heart and bring about wholeness.
Our mission is to contribute the best with generosity and joy as angels of consolation to facilitate healing and wholeness to humanity especially to the poor and marginalized.
We ensure high quality of service by our commitment to
